They say all good things come to those who wait, however, over the next four months, our team will be finding ways to keep the MedCan Summit conversation going and keep you connected. We will be running our new MedCan Cannabis Conversation series, featuring regular updates and engaging online pieces from our speakers, industry experts, practitioners and sponsors highlighting topics that will be shared at MedCan 2022. Deep dive into current evidence on the use of medical cannabis for chronic pain. Join this interactive webinar featuring interviews and Q+A with a Pain Specialist, Prescriber and several Patient advocates. Pharmacist Paul Mavor, is a Director at Health House International, and on the MedCan Advisory Board. Paul has played a pivotal role in the creation of the 1 Day Healthcare Professionals Forum content in MedCan 2022 and 2020, and runs a number of seminars online.
The next update will be from James Yu, a New Zealand Pharmacist, presenting New Zealand’s Medicinal Cannabis Regulations Explained.

Here are some of the latest developments from across the medicinal cannabis industry:
- Helius Therapeutics have had two locally manufactured medicinal cannabis products verified, both meet the minimum quality standard and will be available to prescribe this week. 3 years from law change to market: Industry’s first NZ-made cannabis medicines available from Thursday. This is fantastic for the industry and for patients across New Zealand. More information on the products can be found on the Ministry of Health website.
- From 1 October, all medicinal cannabis products imported into or manufactured in New Zealand must be verified as meeting the minimum quality standards before they can be imported or supplied. Medicinal Cannabis Agency – Information for consumers | Ministry of Health NZ
- In conjunction with the Ministry of Health, the Best Practice Advocacy Centre New Zealand (BPAC) is developing an educational resource on medicinal cannabis. The opportunity to provide feedback on the BPAC medicinal cannabis resource for health professionals is available until 22 October.
- Rua Bioscience has received licence to manufacture (GMP). Now producing their first product they are on track to deliver revenue.
- Callaghan Innovation have been working with Helius, you can read why we are all Better Together. Helius has also started a collaboration in the education space with AUT. The more connections the stronger this growing industry will be.Helius also achieved, a significant milestone when they gained New Zealand’s first GMP certification for cannabis medicines.
