Dr Stefan Hill is an analytical chemist with an interest in native cellulose who has proposed novel insights into its biosynthesis, transformation, and crystal structures. As the Research Leader in charge of the Advanced Chemical Characterisation group he has a strong focus on analytical problem solving to support industry. His areas of expertise are NMR and X-ray analysis of natural materials, and he is a committee member for the development of a new ISO standard for the “Characterization of individual cellulose nanofibril samples”. As part of a project looking at kauri die-back he was part of a team that developed an NMR based method for the rapid metabolomic screening of plants. This approach has been more recently applied to cannabis to provide a fast overview of the whole plant metabolome giving insight not only into cannabinoids concentrations but also the general health status of the plants.
