Dr Stefan Hill is Scion’s Portfolio Leader for High-Value Biorefineries. This Portfolio is tasked with identifying and developing opportunities for producing high-value chemicals in a New Zealand Circular Bioeconomy. Specifically, by utilising waste plant biomass to create high-value pharmaceutical precursors, cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals, and other fine chemicals. These products would replace petroleum-based chemicals and provide novel chemical streams to reduce New Zealand’s reliance on imported chemicals and create new export markets by taking a ‘whole of plant’ view of available biomass.
