What the Medicinal Cannabis Scheme means for New Zealand

These new regulations will enable the local cultivation and manufacture of medicinal cannabis products. This in turn will allow New Zealanders to access more affordable medicinal cannabis products which will create more equitable health outcomes and help to ease the pain of thousands of people.

The ability for medicinal cannabis products to be made in New Zealand will enable increased supply and continuity of products with an ensured quality and consistency of cannabinoid content which will give medical practitioners the confidence to prescribe medicinal cannabis products.

The economic opportunity for New Zealand could be worth hundreds of millions in GDP, support many new jobs and deliver significant export earnings for our country. This is especially crucial given the economic conditions New Zealand will face once the current Covid-19 crisis is over.
